What is Creative Arts Therapy?
Using simple art materials such as clay, collage, pencils and paints can enable you to communicate difficult feelings around simple blockages, or more complex issues, such as trauma, family violence, loss or difficult emotions. Arts therapy also provides a safe space for reflective thinking, relaxation and emotional release.
Client and therapist work creatively through visual art, movement, music, narrative (poetry, prose and performance) to work on emotional, physical, social and cognitive aspects of self. We also talk, laugh, or cry, as needed. Our sessions stay emotionally safe, you only go where you want or need to. Mindful practice is always part of our work together, and we stay present-centred.
Creative arts therapy is a rich form of psychotherapy where images and the creative process are used to express emotional states.
Using the arts collaboratively is particularly helpful for those who are struggling to put feelings into words. It is also fun.
